At Ribbon and Rogue, we don’t just tell you to ditch traditions that don’t serve you. We live it.
If you didn’t already know, Claire and Glenn are more than business partners. We’re married (since November 16, 2016!). And yes, our wedding was as delightfully rogue as you’d expect.
Here’s a peek into the bold, untraditional choices we made and why our guests still talk about it to this day.

The Venue? Claire’s Mom’s Backyard.
Because nothing says ‘personal’ like turning your mom’s yard into a party space.
It wasn’t “Pinterest-perfect” but it was meaningful, cozy, and 100% us. Her house is located on Agricultural land, so permits were not required although it did have a noise ordinance of 10:00pm so the party had to end by then.
The Caterer? A Cafeteria Lunch Lady.
Claire tracked down the woman who used to run her favorite food truck, who had become a cafeteria lunch lady, and asked if she could cater the wedding.
She said yes.
The food? Unmatched. The vibe? Personal, nostalgic, and full of love. (Did anyone say Brisket?!)

Not Enough Chairs (On Purpose)
This one’s gonna make traditional planners sweat.
Claire had 100 guests and only 50 seats for dinner.
She used her timeline-savvy skills to make it work. Guests went to the buffet line in no particular order, and by the time the last guests grabbed food, the first wave was already done and moving.
No one noticed. They still don’t believe us when we tell them there weren’t enough seats.
Planning ≠ perfection. It’s about intentional flow.
First Fight, Not First Dance
Claire loves to dance. Glenn… not so much.
But what do we have in common? Martial arts. So instead of a first dance, we had a choreographed first fight. Complete with a failed hurricanrana and a plunger-tipped arrow shot at Glenn.
Yes, Claire shot an arrow at Glenn.
Yes, guests screamed.
Yes, it was amazing.

A Champagne Fountain
The centerpiece of our wedding? A champagne fountain guests could pour themselves.
Let’s just say it was the best wedding decision Claire ever made.
Favor Cups That Actually Got Used
Instead of throwaway favors, Claire and Glenn gave guests glass cups with the word Always etched on them (yes, a Harry Potter reference).
Guests used them all night, took them home, and they cut down on plastic and trash.
10/10 we recommend.
A Caricature Artist
Not everyone loves to dance. Claire, an artist herself, wanted an experience for guests who preferred to chill.
So we hired a caricaturist to draw guests throughout the night. It was a unique keepsake and fun alternative activity for our guests.

The Vibe? Unapologetically Us.
There wasn’t a huge budget. There weren’t over-the-top installations. But there was love. And laughter. And surprise. And soul.
It was the kind of wedding where people didn’t want to leave. (Seriously, we had to kick people out at the end of the night). And people still talk about, years later.
Because here’s the truth:
When you design your wedding around what you love, you create an experience your guests love too. I mean, they're friends and family, right? So they get you. And if they don't - they shouldn't be invited anyways.
It’s not about copying someone else’s “perfect day.” It’s about making your own.
So go rogue. Break a few rules. And throw a celebration that actually feels like you.
